Sync AudioPen with Obsidian

I didn't make AudioPen, nor did I make Obsidian. But I made a little plugin and service that automatically syncs AudioPen notes to Obsidian.

Prerequisites
Before starting this tutorial, ensure you have the following:
- An Obsidian Vault of your own choosing
- Download Obsidian
- (Optional) Obsidian Sync to get the notes both on desktop and mobile
- A paid AudioPen account
- Sign up for AudioPen at audiopen.ai
Once you have all these accounts set up, you're ready to begin the integration process.
Setting up the plugin
- Install the Obsidian AudioPen Sync plugin from the community plugins directory.
- Go to https://audiopen-obsidian.web.app to sign up for the service
- Generate a login token
- Use the token to log in the
AudioPen Syncplugin settings in Obsidian - Set the folder to save the AudioPen notes to (and other settings if needed)
- Add the webhook URL to AudioPen
And you're ready to go!
Step by step instructions
1. Install the Obsidian AudioPen Sync plugin
- Search for AudioPen Sync under community plugins, or click here.
- Click
Install, thenEnable
2. Sign up for the Sync Service
- Go to https://audiopen-obsidian.web.app
- Sign in with any Google account (let me know if you need another login)
- The sync service is free, donations to cover the server costs are welcome.
3. Generate a Login Token
- Click the big blue button that says
Generate Obsidian Login Token - Click on the token that's been generated to copy it
4. Log in the AudioPen Sync Plugin in Obsidian
- Go to Obsidian
- Open the Settings and navigate to the
AudioPen Synctab. - Paste the login token and click

5. Select the folder for AudioPen notes
- Create a folder in your vault where you want your AudioPen notes stored
- I like
+ Inbox/AudioPen, you can call it anything that works for you.+ Inboxwill always be on top of the folder list, because of the +- The subfolder
AudioPenmakes it easy to find the voice notes - The
+ Inboxfolder holds all my new notes before I organize them
- Select that folder you made in the AudioPen Sync plugin settings
6. Add the webhook to AudioPen
- Go back to https://audiopen-obsidian.web.app
- Find your
Webhook URL

- Navigate to AudioPen
- Make sure you're logged in
- Click the settings icon at the top right of the screen:
- Scroll down to the section
Beta Programand enable the toggle - In the
Integrationssection, clickSet up integrations
- Add your webhook URL:
- as an automatic webhook
- (optionally) as a manual trigger, if you want to be able to update notes manually
Customisation
You can create custom templates for your notes in Obsidian. If you have made Obsidian templates before, it should be easy. customising your template allows you to do almost anything with your AudioPen notes.
